Marin Magazine was launched in April 2005 by co-founders Jim and Nikki N Wood and Lisa Shanower. The magazine was sold in 2017 and Nikki N Wood continued in her role as publisher until 2019.  270 Media LLC was formed in 2021  by Mimi Towle, Nikki C Wood, and Nikki N Wood with Local Getaways as the main brand under their media umbrella. The opportunity to re-acquire Marin Magazine was presented in September 2022. It was nearly 20 years after the magazine was founded, and the 270 Media partners seized the opportunity.

The three 270 Media co-founders have vast experience in publishing. Mimi Towle, who served as a Marin Magazine editor since inception in 2005, and former editor for ehow.com, editor at The City Magazine and a freelance writer for Parenting, Health and Sunset magazines has been in the editorial world for more than 30 years. Nikki C. Wood, a longtime Marin resident, and former publisher in the San Francisco market at Where magazine, San Francisco Magazine as well as numerous titles under her previous company Mazik Media has also been in publishing for more than 30 years. Nikki N. Wood, co-founder of Coast Magazine in Newport Beach, California and Marin Magazine served as Editorial Director and Publisher for many years with both brands. 

In 2005 Marin Magazine filled a print media void in Marin County, an affluent region famous for progressive-minded, eco-conscious residents. The award-winning magazine has provided unique, compelling, inspirational content and become integral to Marin County as it earned its way into the hearts of residents through thoughtful provocative content and community events.
