A Film About Sausalito and Marin City School District's Desegregation in the 1960s: BBC Documentary "The Mood of America"

February 11, 2025
5:00-8:00PM
2330 Marinship Way, Suite 100
Sausalito, CA 94965

In 1968, the BBC traveled to Sausalito to film the final part of a three part series titled” “The Mood of America,” part of their show Man Alive series, similar to the PBS show Frontline. They sought to capture the aftermath of the voluntary desegregation plan that occurred in 1965 in the Sausalito Marin School District. The investigators attempted to examine the Black and the White perspective on what was happening in the school district by interviewing students, parents, school board members and Principal Sidney Walton. Perhaps the most important aspect of this documentary video is how it captures the emotions and frustrations that are still felt today.

Guest speakers at this special screening will include David Duncan, Phd Candidate of History, UC Santa Cruz and Phil Logan, Community Schools Director, Sausalito Marin City School District. Panel discussion will be led by Kirsten Jones Neff. Pizza and salad will be provided by Tamalpie.

The event is free but due to limited capacity please RSVP below.
